Replacing the joint is the process of removing your entire joint, as well as any tissue that is damaged, and replacing it with a metal prosthesis. The prosthesis offers the patient with much needed relief from any chronic pain. For smaller joints, then a preferable surgery option is joint fusion. Unfortunately, fusion can sacrifice movement in these smaller joints.
